Transforming healthcare through digital and service design

Transforming healthcare through digital and service design

Written by Kieran McBride on Fri 06 Oct 2017

The NHS is a global bastion and an exemplar of healthcare free at the point of delivery. And yet it faces substantive challenges in modernising, to not only excel and deliver the patient care that each individual deserves, but to survive under increasing economic, political and infrastructural pressure.

The NHS is embarking on one of the largest transformation programmes ever undertaken within the public sector. Following the example set by the GDS initiative it’s proven that huge bureaucratic organisations with embedded legacy processes and technologies (and entire sectors), can vastly improve the end customer experience and operational efficiencies, by employing new ways of working, integrated data, systems, digital products and services. You need only to look to the example of Buurtzorg in the Netherlands to see that it can be done.

Nicola Gill is one of a stellar line-up of speakers at #twbconf and a Programme Manager within NHS Digital, leading the £2 Billion transformation of the NHS. Join us to hear Nicola tell us how NHS Digital is widening participation and uptake of digital health technologies through collaborative approaches and inclusive design. The session will tell you:

  • How co-design can support better digital inclusion
  • How to design models for building effective local partnerships to tackle digital exclusion, in areas of high deprivation and health inequalities and with vulnerable groups
  • What the barriers and challenges are to full participation in health technology

Nicola joins speakers from, WIRED, Barnardo’s, The London Mayor’s office, My Life Digital and Edo to talk on everything from GDPR, new ways of working and emerging tech - to design collaborative change for a brighter socio economic future.
